Sheela Kamath, AMFT, APCC:

Great to meet you!

I am an associate marriage and family therapist and associate professional clinical counselor in the San Francisco (East) Bay Area, where I’ve lived since my parents and I emigrated from India when I was a mere 6 months old. I have worked primarily in community mental health with adolescents and adults coping with anxiety, depression, grief, immigration and acculturation issues, school stress, alcohol and substance use, and trauma. My approach is culturally sensitive and strengths-based, drawing from CBT, mindfulness, narrative, expressive arts, and psychodynamic therapies, and I love supporting teens in recognizing their inherent self-worth and discovering talents and interests that bring them joy.

Fun Facts:

SuperPower: Empathy and acceptance

Free Time: I read sci-fi/fantasy books and comics, play with my 2 dogs, listen to music, and watch shows — current favorites include Abbott Elementary and Reservation Dogs.

Self-Care: I have been practicing meditation for about 4 years and participated in a five-day silent retreat soon after I finished graduate school. It really drove home the healing nature of mindfulness.
